Over the weekend of 21/22 September 2002, a team of rowers and scullers from Wallingford Rowing Club plan to row from Oxford (Folly Bridge) to London (Putney), covering a distance of 170km and negotiating 32 locks along the way. We hope to successfully take an eight and a quadruple scull all the way, and through all the locks, using a team of around 20 rowers/scullers of mixed ability, representing the whole club. Each participant will row for a total of between 9 and 12 hours in shifts of up to 3 hours over the period of the weekend. We expect the whole row to take between 18 and 24 hours depending on conditions. Rowing will only take place in daylight for safety reasons. Rowing will start from Oxford early on Saturday morning and should finish at Putney on Sunday afternoon. Success of this event will not only depend on the rowers and scullers taking part but also on the support team on land and on the safety launches on the river. To sponsor the event, please email sponsoredrow@wallingford.rowing.org.uk with your pledge and contact details. You can also help raise additional funds by collecting pledges circulating this form. Donations can also be made directly to the Carolyn Jones Trust fund.
