SAFETY

Wallingford Rowing Club (WRC) is committed to ensuring, promoting and improving the safety of all its members, visitors, and to members of the general public.

All WRC members are required to comply when on club business or activities with current Health & Safety legislation, e.g. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health; the Road Traffic Acts, and with any other current legislation that is applicable, with compliance being monitored and if required enforced by the WRC committee.

As a Rowing Club all members must comply with the Amateur Rowing Association Water Safety Code (WSC), the ARA Rules of Racing, & IOC Rules on Drug Use. Members must also observe any other guidelines e.g. Child Protection & Athlete Welfare, Trailer Towing etc, that the ARA have or will issue from time to time.

Club members must also be aware of and comply with the local WRC rules, specifically the WRC Stream Notice, WRC Code of Conduct & the WRC Safety Guidelines.

Visiting participants are also expected to operate within these same Amateur Rowing Association rules and guidelines. Visitors are to be advised of and comply with the WRC local rules.

Please read the Safety Statement - PDF File .

Please also read the Stream Notice (PDF file) and Code of Conduct (PDF File) . The instructions in these notices must be followed by all members, so please can everyone make sure they read them carefully. If you have any questions contact the Safety Advisor.

EQUITY POLICY

Our Equity Policy can be read here - Equity Policy - PDF File

EQUIPMENT DAMAGE

Please can everyone make sure that they report any damage of club equipment to the Repairs Officer. Phone number and email on the Contact page.

Equipment damage should also be written up on the white board above the booking sheets book.

GUEST ROWERS

The committee has agreed that we will let guest rowers row at the club up to five times a year without charge. So, if you have a friend coming down who would like a quick trip on the river or you are an old member who wants a nostalgic outing, fill in the attached form ( PDF File or Word Doc ) and send it back to the Membership Secretary (see contacts page for details). Note that all outings by temporary members must be supervised by an experienced member of the club.

REACHING THE LANDING STAGE

This is about your safety, minimising damage to boats and to you, and being courteous to other less enlightened river users, especially when cruise traffic is high in the summer.

WINTER LIGHTS

All athletes, coaches, coxes, please note:

Lights are compulsory after lighting up time. Going out when light and returning in the dark still requires lights.

A white light must be seen through 360 degrees. So you will need a minimum of a white light on the bows and a white light on the stern.

Attaching lights to a rigger is not acceptable, nor are red or flashing lights.

Keep yourself and other river users safe.

For sunset and sunrise times, see the local Weather Forecast page.
